**Job Summary**

The State of Montana is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Bureau Chief of the Water Projects Bureau. As a key member of the State's water management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the administration of the state's water resources, including the planning, organization, and direction of the Bureau's activities.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Direct and coordinate the program activities of the Bureau, ensuring consistency with state laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Develop and implement program operating and administrative policies, short and long-term plans, and program objectives, priorities, strategies, and goals.
  • Ensure program activities are aligned with the state's water management goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate with other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure effective water management practices.
  • Provide oversight of Bureau contracts for personal and professional services, including negotiation of contract conditions, claims, change orders, and disputes.
  • Make final determinations on engineering and contract matters within the Bureau.
  • Manage the Water Rights of the Bureau, including water purchase agreements and approvals.
  • Oversee and provide guidance to staff on MEPA/NEPA and permitting requirements.

**Requirements**

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in water resources management, including experience in program administration and contract management.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to direct and coordinate the activities of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and government agencies.
  • Knowledge of state laws, rules, and regulations related to water resources management.
