Job Summary

The Critical Power Systems Technician is tasked with the servicing, troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems from various manufacturers, including both single and three-phase systems, as well as batteries and other essential power equipment like Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Static Switches (SSWs). This role also involves providing technical support to clients regarding operational and maintenance matters. The position reports to the Regional Service Manager and does not have direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on contracted equipment.
  • Oversee maintenance that involves the use and care of electrical testing tools.
  • Advise departments on system requirements to meet their needs while adhering to safety standards.
  • Perform initial equipment start-ups.
  • Provide 24/7 emergency support as needed.
  • Execute maintenance routines for electrical equipment.
  • Maintain battery systems.
  • Install battery systems in compliance with design specifications and safety regulations.
  • Deliver services while adhering to safety codes, specifications, and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with team members on custom and large-scale installation projects.
  • Educate clients on the basic operation of their equipment, addressing potential issues and necessary corrective actions.
  • Foster and maintain excellent relationships with customers, colleagues, and sales representatives.
  • Troubleshoot critical power systems to identify root causes and perform repairs with minimal disruption to customer operations.
  • Interpret technical documentation, including schematics.
  • Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors as necessary.
  • Identify sales opportunities for critical power equipment and connect potential clients with relevant internal and external resources.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and promptly, including Field Service Reports, RMAs, timecards, and expense reports.
  • Assist with warehouse duties, including preparing batteries for transport, managing inventory, and operating a forklift.
  • Provide training and support to less experienced team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Performance Metrics:
  • Performance scorecard reflecting safety, project completion times, customer satisfaction, and issue resolution.
  • Management observations regarding attitude, diligence, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
  • Other key metrics set by Concentric leadership that positively impact customers and the company.
  • Additional performance indicators as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED required; an associate degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Factory training or equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance of various leading UPS brands is desirable.
  • Experience with three-phase UPS systems is mandatory for consideration.
  • Strong understanding of sealed and wet cell battery theory and application is essential.
  • Familiarity with battery maintenance procedures is required.
  • Basic knowledge of AC and DC electrical/electronic theory is necessary.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
  • Must pass a drug test; technicians are subject to random testing.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to organize work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to work with diverse individuals and across remote locations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate ideas and listen to customer needs.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong workplace relationships focused on customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborative mindset to work with other departments for the organization's benefit.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in telecommunications is a plus but not required.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, up to 80% of the time.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, as services may be performed during evenings or weekends.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
