Position Summary

The Critical Power UPS Technician plays a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems across various manufacturers. This position is essential for ensuring the reliability of power systems, including batteries and critical power equipment such as Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Static Switches (SSWs). The technician will also provide technical support to clients regarding operational and maintenance inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment under contract.
  • Utilize electrical test equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Advise departments on system requirements and safety compliance.
  • Perform initial system start-ups.
  • Provide 24/7 emergency service as needed.
  • Execute maintenance routines for electrical equipment.
  • Oversee battery system maintenance and installations to meet safety codes.
  • Collaborate with team members on large installation projects.
  • Educate clients on equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Foster strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Diagnose and repair critical power systems efficiently.
  • Interpret technical documentation, including schematics.
  • Manage on-site subcontractors as required.
  • Identify sales opportunities for critical power equipment.
  • Complete necessary paperwork accurately and promptly.
  • Assist with warehouse tasks, including battery preparation and inventory management.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Performance Metrics:

  • Evaluation based on safety, project completion time, customer satisfaction, and issue resolution.
  • Management feedback on attitude, teamwork, and skill development.
  • Adherence to key performance indicators set by leadership.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required; an associate degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology is preferred.
  • Factory training or equivalent experience with leading UPS brands is advantageous.
  • Experience with 3-Phase UPS systems is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of battery theory and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with AC and DC electrical/electronic theory.
  • Ability to pass background checks and obtain necessary certifications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Experience in telecommunications is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must be able to perform essential functions, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), lifting up to 100 pounds, and maintaining awareness of high voltage environments.

Work Environment:

The role involves working in diverse settings, including data centers and industrial facilities, with exposure to moderate noise levels and high voltage power.
