Position Overview:


This role is responsible for conducting audits and financial assessments as mandated by the County Controller, adhering to the latest standards and guidelines in the auditing profession.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties include:
Examine data and perform County audits in line with Government Auditing Standards (GAS).
Operate under the guidance of the audit supervisor, as designated by the Controller or Deputy Controller.
Compile audit contact details, support audit personnel, and draft audit-related correspondence and confirmations.
Assess and organize data for entry into an auditable format or application.

Recognize potential issues or areas of concern during data compilation and communicate these findings to audit personnel for further evaluation.

Draft audit reports and document findings as summarized by the lead auditor.
Review all correspondence and identify potential discrepancies in reports.
Provide guidance and support to audited staff regarding best practices in accounting policies and procedures.
Participate in training sessions to fulfill continuing education requirements.
Oversee office supply requests.
Maintain the County contracts documentation.
Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Controller.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training:
An Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with a strong focus on accounting or auditing is required. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in auditing, accounting, or finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for educational requirements.


Experience:
At least two (2) years of experience in an auditing, accounting, or finance environment, demonstrating the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of fundamental principles and applications of auditing, accounting, and bookkeeping; familiarity with governmental auditing is preferred.
Proficient in standard accounting terminology and mathematical concepts.
Knowledge of standard office practices and systems.
Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook); familiarity with Microsoft Access is advantageous.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, third-party vendors, and auditors.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
Competence in planning and organizing audit processes.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and solution-oriented skills.
Proficient in operating standard office equipment, including networked Windows Operating System desktop computers, typing, photocopying, and faxing.

Familiarity with relevant County policies and regulations is essential to ensure compliance.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload with minimal supervision, and remain composed under pressure when facing tight deadlines.
Capacity to follow complex oral and written instructions.
Aptitude for performing detailed work with frequent interruptions.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Capability to handle multiple projects efficiently.
Willingness to travel 15-25% of the time for county-wide fieldwork; a valid driver's license is required.
