Job Description

Position Overview:
Terracon Consultants, a prominent nationwide engineering consulting firm, is in search of a dedicated and meticulous Environmental Field Consultant to enhance our operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding public health and the environment, alongside a strong eagerness to develop professionally within the environmental health and safety sector. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Industrial Hygiene Evaluations:
    • Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments under the guidance of a Board-Certified Industrial Hygienist, including noise assessments and audits for hearing conservation programs.
    • Perform health and safety audits, as well as ventilation and lighting surveys, and investigate indoor environmental quality.
    • Execute employee exposure assessments and offer recommendations for hazard mitigation.
    • Calibrate, clean, and maintain field monitoring instruments, including sampling devices and meters.
  2. Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint Inspections:
    • Carry out building inspections for asbestos-containing materials following regulatory standards.
    • Conduct air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos and lead abatement initiatives.
    • Collect samples of painted surfaces in commercial and industrial environments.
  3. Microbial and Indoor Environmental Quality Consulting:
    • Perform assessments for microbial issues and water damage, along with monitoring microbial remediation efforts.
    • Conduct thorough indoor environmental quality assessments across various settings, including commercial and industrial spaces.
    • Identify sources of indoor air pollutants, including biological, chemical, and particulate matter.
    • Evaluate ventilation systems and propose enhancements to improve indoor environmental quality.
    • Develop and implement management plans for indoor environmental quality to ensure healthy indoor spaces.
  4. Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
    • Adhere to safety protocols, guidelines, and standards for all assignments.
    • Engage in pre-task planning and report any safety concerns to management.
    • Maintain compliance with company health and safety standards while ensuring quality on all projects.
  5. Project Support and Documentation:
    • Create operations and maintenance plans along with microbial remediation protocols.
    • Provide oversight for remediation efforts and air monitoring services.
    • Ensure accurate and comprehensive project documentation is maintained.
Essential Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in industrial hygiene, safety, asbestos, microbial, or lead-based paint.
  • Willingness to obtain necessary certifications for microbial, asbestos, and lead inspections within a specified timeframe.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, building science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory violation history.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Physical capability to climb ladders, lift and carry equipment (up to 50 lbs.), and remain standing for extended periods.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in using environmental sampling tools and software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong report writing skills and proficiency in relevant software (Word, Excel).
Desired Skills and Attributes:
  • Licenses such as TDLR Mold Assessment Technician or Consultant, TDSHS Asbestos Inspector are advantageous.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
