Facilities Management and Operations Leader

Job Summary:

The Director of Facilities Management and Operations will oversee the coordination of facility operations, including maintenance, grounds, and custodial services, for Wittenberg University.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning: Prepare annual budget for facilities operations with justifications for staffing, maintenance, and capital improvements.
  • Team Management: Maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish departmental functions and perform training and development for all departmental personnel.
  • Contract Management: Manage contract with third-party provider of custodial services and set priorities for projects to ensure proper care and maintenance of facilities and grounds.
  • Utility Management: Coordinate acquisition of utility commodities through forward-purchase contracts and ensure proper upkeep of all facilities, including heating, ventilation, lighting, and general building appearance.
  • Communication and Performance Management: Maintain communication, goals, and performance assessment for all staff and record of deferred maintenance and prioritization of spending.
  • University Liaison: Serve as University liaison with architects, engineers, and contractors/subcontractors engaged in plant expansions, renovation, and other major projects.
  • Purchasing and Inventory Control: Coordinate purchasing and inventory control of supplies, equipment, and services for all facilities management needs.
  • Advisory Role: Advise stakeholders on Facilities Management matters, problem areas, and areas of risk exposure.
  • Committee Participation: Serve on various campus committees, including Enterprise Risk Management, Facilities and Environment Committee, Sustainability Task Force, and Emergency Response Team.
  • Policies and Procedures: Manage departmental and institutional policies and procedures related to physical resources and monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls during non-business hours and advise administration on funding needs for physical facilities.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience related to facilities management, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Skills: Knowledge of customer service standards, work order systems, and budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Leadership and Technical Skills: Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership, make administrative decisions, and identify alternative funding sources.
  • Employee Development and Performance Management: Employee development and performance management skills, as well as ability to negotiate and manage contractual agreements.
  • Knowledge of Best Practices: Knowledge of best practices in grounds and housekeeping operations, ability to read and interpret blueprints, and outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.
