Position Summary:

The Assistant Buyer is responsible for overseeing inventory levels and cost management of assigned products. This role involves coordinating logistics for incoming shipments and providing support to fellow buyers and inventory control personnel. The ideal candidate will source products that meet or exceed company standards within set timelines and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and procure assigned stock items.
  • Participate in daily inventory meetings.
  • Communicate updates regarding new and discontinued items, as well as changes in product and packaging technologies.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to analyze market conditions and assist in developing sales strategies.
  • Maintain cost records in AS400 for stock and fillet items.
  • Design seasonal and annual merchandising initiatives.
  • Work with sales management to develop weekly sales forecasts and ensure inventory needs are met.
  • Utilize supplier lead times to enhance the company's market position.
  • Ensure transport carriers adhere to delivery schedules and warehouse receiving requirements.
  • Prepare purchase orders for daily receiving and provide necessary transportation instructions.
  • Respond to sales inquiries regarding new product sourcing.
  • Utilize the Product Request Form effectively.
  • Track freight and confirm purchase orders for incoming shipments.
  • Cross-train with buyers and inventory control for coverage during absences.
  • Handle phone inquiries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
