Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant II plays a vital role in delivering both clinical and administrative support within an outpatient clinic environment. This position is essential for ensuring that healthcare providers and team members can deliver optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conducts the rooming and intake process, gathering essential data such as vital signs, height, weight, and information pertinent to the patient's visit.
2. Collects comprehensive medical and social histories from patients and their families.
3. Reviews and updates the patient's medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
4. Assists healthcare providers during examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed.
5. Performs specimen collection and phlebotomy tasks.
6. Administers medications under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
7. Conducts tests, including EKGs and eye examinations, as instructed by a provider.
8. Evaluates patient records to identify the need for routine health screenings.
9. Ensures that examination and procedure rooms are stocked with necessary supplies, equipment, and educational materials.
10. Provides patients with follow-up instructions and educational resources as needed.
11. Maintains cleanliness and organization of exam and treatment areas.
12. Sterilizes medical instruments to ensure safety and compliance.
13. Aids in patient registration, appointment scheduling, and coordination of tests and referrals.
14. Manages clinic communications and assists with in-basket tasks under provider or nursing direction.
15. Responds to emergency situations as directed by healthcare providers or nursing staff.
16. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring new medical assistants, training staff on clinic procedures, and participating in quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications:
Education:
● Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program is preferred but not mandatory.
Licensure/Certification:
● Certification as a Medical Assistant from recognized organizations is required.
● Basic Life Support Certification is mandatory.
Experience:
● A minimum of one year of full-time experience as a Certified Medical Assistant is necessary.
Skills:
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
● Ability to engage positively with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
● Proficiency in using electronic medical records for documentation.
