Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Anatomic Pathology Operations Coordinator to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. This is a full-time, day shift position that requires a strong background in laboratory operations and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Section Coordination:
    • Verify specimen integrity and quality control records/logs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
    • Participate in the planning and maintenance of the laboratory information system (LIS).
    • Investigate and resolve patient, technical, and workflow problems related to the Gross Room(s) and Autopsy Services.
  • Staff Selection, Training, Supervision, and Evaluation:
    • Assist in the interviewing and selection of new hires.
    • Coordinate and supervise section staffing to ensure sufficient staff to cover all aspects of service.
    • Oversee staff adjustments in the Automated Time Recording system, vacation requests, and leave requests.
    • Ensure department staff provides consistent quality and customer service to all customers.
  • Technical:
    • Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.
    • Perform duties of the Pathologists' Assistant as needed.
    • Perform, record, and maintain quality assurance and patient information as required by the laboratory and accrediting agencies.
    • Coordinate operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment; assure maintenance of service records.
  • Financial Management:
    • Create, develop, and maintain RVU and productivity systems.
    • Assure that all billing for services is accurate, timely, and in compliance with regulations.
    • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of expense/revenue budgets.
  • Leadership/Problem Solving:
    • Adhere to Patients First Management standards on leadership, communication, and visibility.
    • Coordinate critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors and consult with Manager or Director for guidance as needed.
  • Medical Staff Relations:
    • Work with Medical Directors in implementing goals, objectives, budgets, and new programs.
    • Support Clinical Quality Management activities.
Qualifications
  • Qualifies as a General Supervisor as defined in CLIA 88 regulations.
  • Master's degree in applicable discipline.
  • PA-certified through recognized Board of Registry, ASCP or equivalent.
