Financial Oversight and Reporting:

Deliver comprehensive financial insights and strategic recommendations through meticulous data analysis and reporting for the management of extensive and intricate portfolios.

Engage with stakeholders to identify and leverage strategic opportunities within the portfolio.

Investigate issues, assess the overall context, pinpoint relevant policies and guidelines, and propose actionable solutions.

Accountable for all financial assessments and budgeting tasks, encompassing multiple budgets with diverse funding sources, staggered timelines, varying overhead rates, and differing policies regarding allowable costs, as well as managing the acquisition and loss of sponsor funding.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Assessment:

Ensure adherence to financial policies across all portfolio activities by integrating the regulations of Yale and various funding organizations into financial planning and expenditure reviews.

Counsel faculty and clients on appropriate financial policies. Safeguard the fiscal integrity of the portfolio and department.

Review and authorize all expenditures while considering both sponsor and Yale policies, ensuring proper documentation and justification for charges against sponsored awards.

Management of Proposals and Oversight:
Strategically plan and prioritize actions across multiple awards and portfolios. Provide expert guidance and oversight regarding significant impacts at the business unit level. Offer strategic direction in account management and collaboration with account holders. Review and interpret sponsor documentation (e.g., applications, award notices, and terms and conditions).

Oversee all activities related to assigned portfolios in managing sponsored awards, ensuring timely and accurate submission of sponsor documents, including applications, modifications, extensions, and all required post-award reports (financial, technical, etc.).

Collaborative Financial Partner:

Work in partnership with other Business Offices, Central Offices, external institutions, and sponsoring agencies to ensure effective management of sponsor funds.

Based on the funding and activities of faculty members or clients, identify and recommend alternatives for effort allocation, spending adjustments, and allocation methodologies.

Essential Skills and Abilities:
Proven understanding of continuous process improvement and data-driven decision-making.

Communication Skills:
Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities. Capacity to build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty and staff.

Independence and Motivation:
Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate self-motivation. Strong attention to detail and a clear understanding of confidentiality are crucial. Maintain a positive attitude and collaborate effectively within a team.

Financial Analysis Expertise:
Well-developed skills in financial analysis and data mining, along with a solid understanding of financial models.

Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrated expertise with PC-related software, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong background in finance and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in Grants & Contract Administration, familiarity with Workday Financials and/or the Yale Budgeting Tool (YBT), as well as other University financial tools, reports, and programs.

Experience as an accountant or financial professional. Interest and experience in mentoring and advising staff are also preferred.

Standard workweek (Monday to Friday with equal hours each day)
