Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate or Laboratory Specialist to join our team at the University of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for research projects and performing complex laboratory tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specialize in laboratory techniques and equipment functions specific to research projects.
  • Assist in the evaluation of research methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Perform a variety of tests requiring high proficiency, including tissue culture, flow cytometry, and molecular studies.
  • May perform research in mouse models and provide basic assistance to researchers in manipulating and analyzing data.
  • Provide technical support for laboratory sections and instruct academic staff in laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Explain work instructions and adapt general methods and procedures to meet the needs of research projects.
  • Assist in training other staff members on procedures and assist in manuscript writing.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience: At least two years of laboratory experience, with a Bachelor's degree in a related field considered in lieu of experience.
  • Preferred experience and expertise in human cellular immunology, flow cytometry, immunology, and molecular analyses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with programming languages such as R or Python.
  • Knowledge of gene expression data analysis.
  • Experience with molecular analyses and techniques.
