We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Development Officer to join our team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a key member of our development team, you will play a critical role in creating and executing a comprehensive development plan to raise awareness, strengthen relationships, and garner financial support for our initiatives and academic programs.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with our director, faculty, and staff to increase the visibility of our initiatives and establish a thriving community of supporters, including philanthropic and industry partnerships.
- Build, manage, and collaborate on a portfolio of individual donors and industry prospects, identifying and engaging prospective donors and industry partners through face-to-face visits, meetings, and events.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to secure six- and seven-figure gift commitments, including drafting high-level proposals and creating materials and content related to our initiatives.
- Maximize the director's and faculty travel to engage with prospective donors and industry partners, and maintain accurate records of donor and prospect interactions.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific field, or equivalent experience.
- Three years of direct fundraising experience, preferably in higher education.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, project management, time management, and written and oral communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial approach to developing a prospect pool and ability to manage multiple projects with confidentiality and discretion.
- High-level computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.
- Proven record of successful cultivation and solicitation of six-figure+ gifts.
This is a full-time position that requires occasional evening and weekend work. Travel is required approximately 20% of the time, both regionally and out of state.
