Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Patient Service Representative to join our team at Spaulding Rehabilitation. As a Patient Service Representative, you will be responsible for overseeing and performing all activities associated with the outpatient registration service and scheduling of outpatients. This includes supporting all other front office staff, coordinating demographic and insurance intake, computerized registration, scheduling of patients, and verifying individual insurance coverage with a customer service-oriented approach. You will also be responsible for orienting patients to the center and coordinating additional patient services as needed. This role requires a high level of operational knowledge, teaching, and professional involvement, as well as outpatient center marketing and community involvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to other center team members by answering phones, assisting customers, and fulfilling cross-trained responsibilities.
  • Support the development of other staff to ensure effective orientation and continuous development to achieve performance standards.
  • Maintain daily scheduling status and address potential problems with corrective actions.
  • Complete patient pre-registration, registration, insurance verification, and scheduling according to center standards.
  • Greet patients, assist them, and notify appropriate staff of patient arrival.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering the phone, confirming appointments, supporting insurance requirements processes, photocopying, typing, faxing, inventory of supplies, sorting mail, and handling other administrative duties according to center guidelines.
  • Set up, maintain, and discharge medical records according to center guidelines in a timely manner.
  • Process monthly patient satisfaction questionnaires for current patients according to center standards.
  • Deliver customer service to achieve stated goals.
  • Record insurance approvals and documentation in the medical record and computer system according to center standards.
  • Enter and reconcile therapy charges as assigned.
  • Complete additional department, organization, or network activities according to established objectives.

Additional Responsibilities for an Advanced Patient Service Representative
  • Complete annual requirements of 6 initiatives as described in the administrative ladder application.
Qualifications

Education/Degree

Required
  • High school graduate required. Associate's degree preferred.
Experience

Preferred
  • Two years of experience in a medical/physicians office setting and/or experience with insurance benefits preferred.
Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training)

Required
  • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
Preferred
  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse populations.
  • Work independently, be self-directed, and contribute as a member of a team.
  • Anticipate challenges and develop and implement strategies for addressing them.
