The University Police Dispatcher performs critical telecommunications work in a fast-paced environment, receiving emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public, law enforcement, and fire and rescue communities. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, utilizing a computer-aided dispatching system to manage service calls and dispatch patrol officers to incidents.
- Monitor and operate the university security system, including alarms and closed-circuit television cameras, to ensure the safety and security of the campus community.
- Provide information and support to police officers, including criminal histories, wanted checks, and vehicle registration status.
- Assist with training programs and other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of work experience involving public contact, preferably with an emergency response agency or dispatch center.
- General knowledge of the methods of operation of telecommunication equipment and systems.
- Ability to work well in emergency situations and a stressful environment.
- Ability to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience operating a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system.
- Experience operating an alarm monitoring system.
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols.
