Job Title: CDL Driver Outreach Worker

United Planning Organization (UPO) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate CDL Driver Outreach Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Shelter Hotline Program, you will play a vital role in providing transportation and outreach services to homeless adults and families in the DC area.

Job Summary:

The CDL Driver Outreach Worker will operate UPO Shelter Hotline vehicles to transport clients along assigned routes and/or designated point-to-point service destinations. You will provide outreach and transportation services to available shelters, canvas the city streets to identify homeless individuals in need of assistance, and communicate with the hotline dispatcher via two-way radio to acquire resources for at-risk clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a 25-passenger vehicle to transport clients to shelters and other destinations
  • Provide outreach services to homeless individuals, including transportation and comfort items
  • Canvas the city streets to identify homeless individuals in need of assistance
  • Communicate with the hotline dispatcher via two-way radio to acquire resources for at-risk clients
  • Work closely with the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), DC Fire and Police Departments to facilitate clients off the streets and into shelters
  • Ensure passengers are properly seated and given proper safety instructions
  • Assist with the delivery of packages, documents, and parcels, as well as the distribution of blankets, cots, hot/cold drinks, and food
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience operating a 25-passenger vehicle
  • Current CDL driver's license with an A or B class license with passenger endorsement, air brakes, DOT passenger safety protocol, emergency procedures, and 2 years of CDL driving experience
  • Current five (5) year driving record cannot exceed more than two points
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends, and drive during all types of weather
  • Strong comprehensive geographic knowledge of Washington, DC to effectively navigate the streets and neighborhoods
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
  • First-Aid & CPR certification
  • Bilingual/Spanish
Additional Requirements:
  • In the event of an offer, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI fingerprinting, as well as pre-employment drug screening, as applicable for the position
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to mandatory random drug and alcohol testing
  • This position requires the incumbent to submit to yearly tuberculosis testing
