This position calls for an exceptionally organized individual capable of transforming intricate and ambiguous requirements into actionable scopes and inputs for factory engineering and construction teams. You will facilitate collaboration among manufacturing, industrial engineering, infrastructure engineering, and construction teams to ensure that factory launch plans are well-defined and executed to achieve ambitious program objectives. You will perform in-depth technical analyses of factory layout designs and infrastructure system alternatives, ensuring that factory development aligns with Tesla's fundamental principles. Your role will involve identifying and comprehending program dependencies, risks, and gaps in information, distilling complex data into clear messages and actionable plans. You will effectively communicate and influence a diverse range of personnel, from senior leadership to junior staff, to support project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive design and engineering of Tesla facilities from initial concept through to production launch.
  • Develop detailed engineering project plans and secure alignment from leadership.
  • Define and clearly communicate the factory design scope and priorities for the engineering team.
  • Facilitate the formation of both internal and external engineering teams, managing third-party consultant contracts and budgets.
  • Implement innovative engineering and design strategies to meet challenging program goals.
  • Oversee the execution of high-quality engineering deliverables required for procurement, costing, permitting, and construction activities.
  • Manage the factory development program schedule, funding requests, and cross-functional design reviews (2D & 3D).
  • Lead technical deep dives into factory engineering, process safety studies, and options analysis.
  • Act as the primary engineering contact for the construction team during the construction phase.
  • Oversee engineering project status reporting, including progress, actions, and risks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams within architectural/engineering firms or design-build firms.
  • Proven experience leading engineering for central plant systems (e.g., chiller plants, boiler plants, compressor plants) is highly advantageous.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all engineering disciplines with the ability to manage engineering resources effectively.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering IFB, IFP, and IFC packages.
  • Experience in designing manufacturing facilities, healthcare, laboratory, mission-critical, and site infrastructure development projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex topics and problems.
  • Pre-construction project management experience is a plus.
