You will engage in detailed technical assessments of factory layout designs and infrastructure system alternatives, ensuring that factory development aligns with Tesla's foundational principles. Additionally, you will identify program dependencies, risks, and any inconsistencies in information, distilling complex data into clear plans and messages. Your ability to communicate and influence a diverse range of personnel, from senior executives to junior staff, will be essential in supporting project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive design and engineering of Tesla facilities from initial concept through to production launch.
  • Develop and secure alignment on engineering project plans with leadership.
  • Clearly define and communicate the factory design scope and priorities for the engineering team.
  • Facilitate the formation of both internal and external engineering teams, managing contracts and budgets for third-party consultants.
  • Implement innovative engineering and design strategies to meet aggressive program goals.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality engineering outputs necessary for procurement, costing, permitting, and construction activities.
  • Manage the factory development program schedule, funding requests, and cross-functional design reviews (2D & 3D).
  • Conduct technical deep dives, process safety studies, and options analysis related to factory engineering.
  • Act as the primary engineering contact for the construction team during the construction phase.
  • Maintain engineering project status reporting, detailing progress, actions, and risks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams within architectural or engineering firms, or design-build environments.
  • Experience leading engineering for central plant systems (e.g., chiller plants, boiler plants, compressor plants) is highly advantageous.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all engineering disciplines with proven skills in managing engineering resources.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering IFB, IFP, and IFC packages.
  • Experience in designing manufacturing facilities, healthcare, laboratory, mission-critical, and site infrastructure development projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex topics and problems.
  • Pre-construction project management experience is a plus.
