Position Overview

The Research Grant Specialist III operates under general supervision, collaborating closely with the Department Manager and/or Principal Investigator (PI) to oversee and manage all aspects of pre- and post-award grant administration within the unit. This role serves as a vital link between various departments, research teams, Sponsored Research Funds Administration (SRFA), and the finance and accounting divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-award and post-award financial projections, account reconciliations, cost transfers, progress reports, budget modifications, salary allocation assessments, time and effort management reporting, and purchase order reconciliations.
  • Engage in financial analysis and forecasting to identify variances, draw logical conclusions, and propose alternative solutions as needed.
  • Review grant applications and manage post-award activities, developing practical solutions for complex or unprecedented challenges and providing actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Oversee all deliverables, including invoices and subcontract documentation, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and accountability for salary, supply expenses, and subcontracting.
  • Provide mentorship and training to grant management personnel.

Experience Requirements

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a solid grasp of federal and major funding agency grant submission protocols.
  • Experience with multi-PI proposals and preparation of essential grant submission components, including progress and financial reports.
  • Familiarity with drafting scientific manuscripts and abstracts.
  • Proficient in eRA commons, NIH RePORTER, Federal Reporter, and other relevant proposal submission platforms.
  • Preferred experience in a laboratory setting or a sponsored research office.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in pre- and post-award research grant management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Work Environment

This position is based at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the focus is on academic and research excellence.
