Job Title: Senior Research Administrator

The Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our research administration team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of complex grants and contracts, providing short-term backup coverage for Research Administrators, and monitoring proposal caseload and making assignment recommendations accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of complex grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with University and government regulations.
  • Provide short-term backup coverage for Research Administrators during periods of absence or leave.
  • Monitor proposal caseload and make assignment recommendations accordingly.
  • Delegate tasks and projects, when necessary, and monitor workflow and processes, making adjustments as required.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and mentoring, as necessary.
  • Resolve complex issues escalated from team members and determine if further review is necessary by senior management or key University constituencies.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and interpret complex University and government policies for project and University personnel.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, oversee cross-campus projects, and train and advise staff and other University personnel on issues requiring specific technical expertise.
  • Develop and administer program budgets and determine resource allocations, reviewing changes requested by staff and project stakeholders and providing recommendations regarding budget, time, and scope implications.
  • Negotiate and communicate with federal and state sponsors, industry sponsors, other institutions, and/or University schools or divisions in regard to application issues, terms and conditions, cost sharing, direct and indirect costs, general compliance with University guidelines, payment schedules, publication restrictions, ownership rights, confidentiality, intellectual property, and overall proposal and award rules and regulations.
  • Serve as primary liaison between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, senior University management, and high-profile sponsors, as required.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of current changes within legal, regulatory, competitive economic, and technology environments that may affect specialized programs, ensuring core compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to the University or its research.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate networks of professional contacts, maintaining membership in appropriate professional organizations and publications, attending meetings, seminars, and conferences, making formal presentations, and representing the University and/or unit, as assigned or appropriate.
  • Directly or indirectly manage program and administrative staff, usually through subordinate managers and supervisors, recruiting, screening, hiring, and training staff, as necessary, evaluating employee performance, providing guidance and feedback, counseling, disciplining, and/or terminating employees as required, recommending departmental goals and objectives, including workforce planning and compensation recommendations, reassessing or redefining priorities as appropriate in order to achieve performance objectives, recommending, approving, and monitoring professional training and development opportunities for staff.
  • Develop and implement security-related procedures, such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals, and key controls, coordinating security activities with the Department of Public Safety, promoting and maintaining standards for security-conscious awareness and behavior, maintaining knowledge of the University's crime prevention and suppression programs and services, ensuring dissemination of security-related information to staff.
