About the Role:

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead a team of quality engineers and drive strategic quality initiatives with our suppliers. As a Supplier Quality Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing the supplier quality engineering team, overseeing the strategic quality interface with suppliers, and developing and implementing quality development programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Supplier Quality Engineering group, including performance management, employee development, and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Design Engineering, and Quality Control to plan and execute supply chain strategies, including dual sourcing, tariff mitigation, and supplier onboarding.
  • Participate in quality-related contract negotiations with suppliers.
  • Develop and implement resource materials, tools, systems, and processes relative to supplier development.
  • Develop, improve, and refine supplier quality methods and tools, including assessment, quarterly quality reviews, and virtual auditing.
  • Develop and improve SQE work processes and systems.
  • Develop and maintain a set of supplier site performance metrics.
  • Monitor metrics results and make adjustments as necessary to meet group goals.
  • Monitor and provide feedback to suppliers on their quality performance.
  • Facilitate and manage quality-impacting change requests from suppliers.
  • Determine supplier assignments to ensure a balanced and efficient workload.
  • Manage the group's travel budget.
  • Develop and deliver upon the SQE-related sections of our QA strategic plan.
Nature and Scope:
  • Set the overall direction of the Supplier Quality function.
  • Work to achieve a broad set of mutually agreed goal-driven objectives.
  • Manage the Supplier Quality Engineering group, including hiring, discipline, and terminations.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • High-level understanding of quality processes and quality systems.
  • Good technical skills, with experience and knowledge in one or more of the sciences, including chemistry, materials, physics, or mathematics.
  • Strong process knowledge across a broad base of manufacturing technologies.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to envision, develop, direct, manage, delegate responsibility, and motivate an organization.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas and strategies up through management.
  • Strong understanding of statistics and statistical thinking.
  • Strong observational skills and decision-making skills, with good judgment.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Computer/productivity skills, including MS Office.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years in quality, with a preference for substantial and varied auditing experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience.
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science or Engineering field.
  • CQE certification would be an asset.

  • Must be able to perform essential responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Shop floor environment up to 20% of the time. Availability and capability to travel is a must. Otherwise, mostly an office environment.
