Position Overview

The S&B Family of Companies is actively seeking a skilled Lead Structural Engineer to join our esteemed affiliate, TAI Engineers. This role is essential for overseeing significant engineering projects or managing multiple smaller projects that involve intricate features.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will:
1. In a supervisory role, assist in the planning, development, coordination, and direction of major engineering projects.
2. Undertake complex assignments that require innovative techniques and procedures.
3. Serve as a staff specialist, formulating and assessing plans and criteria for various projects executed by others.

Supervisory Duties

In a supervisory capacity, you will aid in the planning, development, coordination, and management of significant engineering projects or oversee several smaller projects with complex features.

Educational Background

A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from an accredited institution is required.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

Your role will include:
- Leading the conceptualization, detailing, and production of new vessel designs and modifications while resolving technical challenges.
- Performing calculations to support design decisions and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Managing projects by developing and monitoring schedules to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion, collaborating with clients to define new tasks, and working with engineering managers to provide competitive cost estimates for new work.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with design staff.
- Participating in client meetings to foster successful working relationships.
- Developing detailed designs and drafts in CAD format for vessel modifications, repairs, outfitting, and site plans.
- Adhering to all company safety, environmental, quality assurance, and security protocols.

Language Proficiency

Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from clients, managers, designers, and engineers.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to engage with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Proficient in applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.

Physical Requirements

Occasional field trips to operational plants or construction sites may be required. This involves normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, and maintain balance, as well as clear vision at various distances.

Work Environment

The typical work environment is an office setting with moderate noise levels. Occasional visits to operational plants or construction sites may be necessary, which could involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, and various mechanical and chemical hazards.
