About the Role

The Interpreter will provide professional communications support and services to refugees, offering interpretation and translation services, as well as transportation to interviews and appointments as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, ensuring accurate and culturally sensitive communication.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to confidentiality agreements.
  • Advocate on behalf of refugees and refugee-serving voluntary agencies, promoting their needs and interests.
  • Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor, staying informed about refugee and immigrant issues.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position, promoting the organization's mission and values.
  • Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner, respecting the diversity of refugee clients.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned, supporting the team and organization in achieving its goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent life experience.
  • Previous work experience in interpretation and translation is desired, with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including some night and weekend work, as needed.
