Electric Transmission Project Manager – New York Region

POWER Engineers is an expanding firm with a clear vision for growth. We are in search of an Electric Transmission Project Manager in the New York Region for full-time employment. The successful applicant will be part of our Eastern Environmental Services Project Management and Planning Department, joining a team of over 400 environmental specialists nationwide. This role will primarily operate from our Syracuse, NY office, with the flexibility to work remotely within the Upstate New York area. Occasional travel to a POWER office for meetings may be required.

Key Responsibilities

The main focus for this Electric Transmission Project Manager will be on the routing and siting of electric transmission lines and substations, as well as renewable energy initiatives in New York and neighboring states. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of experience in New York State and will be a collaborative and responsive professional with excellent communication and organizational abilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing multiple projects at various phases and locations
  • Leading project teams for significant clients
  • Driving business development efforts - cultivating and maintaining client relationships and spearheading proposal development
  • Formulating strategies for public engagement programs; participating in open houses, public meetings, and hearings
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in siting and environmental permitting
  • Managing and directing routing/siting studies, analyses, and related documentation
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, which may include engineers, legal advisors, planners, permitting and environmental specialists, and real estate professionals
  • Preparing and monitoring project scope, timelines, and budgets
  • Supervising and mentoring team members
  • Anticipating up to 30% travel

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • A minimum of ten years of experience managing environmental permitting and planning projects across various energy-related initiatives
  • Proven experience with Article VII and EM&CP processes, including management of filings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of New York State agency personnel and decision-makers, including the NYSDEC
  • Experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District
  • Proficiency in preparing proposals and presentations, as well as pricing strategies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to define and understand client needs, manage expectations, and communicate effectively with clients and project teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Project Management Professional certification; other relevant professional certifications are a plus
  • Experience in contract negotiations and management
  • Experience in preparing and delivering expert witness testimony is preferred
