Position Overview: Utility Engineer

Qualifications:

We are seeking a highly skilled Utility Engineer with exceptional time management abilities and a proven track record of organizing, prioritizing, and executing multiple projects efficiently. Attention to detail is paramount.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution and have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of central chilled water systems, steam facilities, and steam distribution networks. At least five (5) years of this experience should be in a role equivalent to Engineer I.

Key competencies include:
  • Understanding of heat loss/gain calculations, equipment selection, piping and pump design, chillers, cooling towers, TES tanks, sand filters, air compressors, and high-pressure steam boilers.
  • Proficiency in design calculation software and the ability to prepare calculations, reports, specifications, and presentations.
  • Familiarity with New York State Building Codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities to navigate complex situations.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management software.
  • Ability to interpret underground utility drawings, one-line electrical diagrams, P&I drawings, and architectural and mechanical schematics.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for producing design drawings and sketches.

Additional Requirements:
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • A valid NYS Driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Safety Standards for Refrigeration Systems.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training status in New York State.
  • Ability to read and understand underground utility maps.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and control systems.
  • Physical capability to stand, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders up to 20 feet.
  • Use of personal protective equipment as required.
  • Occasional use of a private vehicle may be necessary.
