Department Details

Schedule typically follows a Monday-Friday routine, with no holidays or weekends required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: cleaning carpets and floors; sanitizing wheelchairs, carts, and waste receptacles; snow removal during winter months; and cleaning vents, baseboards, and other furnishings as necessary. Outdoor tasks may include weeding, litter collection, and sidewalk maintenance.

A valid driver's license with a clean record is required. The Sanitation Services Specialist is tasked with ensuring a safe and hygienic environment in patient/resident areas and assigned locations for patients, visitors, and staff by adhering to infection control, safety, and procedural protocols. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, emptying waste containers, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various cleaning tools and machines. The role requires knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques applicable in a healthcare setting to maintain a clean and sterile environment.

The individual may be responsible for cleaning various locations including patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards.

Proper protective equipment must be worn in accordance with guidelines. Storage, equipment, and carts should be kept well-stocked, clean, and organized. Sanitation Services Specialists will utilize technology such as pagers as needed. Assistance in laundry areas may also be required.

Physical demands include extensive use of arms and legs, as well as whole-body movements such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50 lbs and push/pull varying weights on flat surfaces or ramps is necessary. This position typically requires being on one's feet for the majority of the shift and may involve exposure to noise from operational equipment.

Work hours may vary based on patient/resident needs, which could include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

A minimum of six months of housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience is preferred. Familiarity with computers and prior cleaning experience is advantageous. Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, methods, and chemicals is beneficial. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
