Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under the general oversight of the Director or designated representative, the Building Automation Specialist I will be accountable for the secure, dependable, and cost-effective functioning of the building automation systems.

This role entails executing technical services for all building control systems.

Responsibilities:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repair and Preventive Maintenance

Conduct preventative maintenance and diagnostics on building automation systems and components in both critical and non-critical settings. Assess and confirm system readings to ensure optimal operational efficiency.

Carry out system checkouts and assist in the initiation of automation systems. Complete and submit work orders and reports detailing all aspects of each task and activity.

Diagnose and rectify complex building control systems and components.

If malfunctioning is attributed to another system or defective equipment, consult with the manager or immediate supervisor to recommend the best course of action.

Collaborate with other departments to coordinate repairs.

Execute adjustments, calibrations, and repairs.

Review building control programs to guarantee proper operation, functionality, and efficiency of building systems.

Inspections

Engage in job site evaluations and final completion for systems turnover.

Perform wiring checkouts and automation startups utilizing provided software and tools.

Validate low voltage wiring diagrams and control flow diagrams.

Maintenance Support


Utilize a computerized management system to generate work orders, complete work task assignments, document daily activities, and report job hours, etc.

Assist in the execution of routine duties, performing all work associated with maintenance trades of an equal or lower classification where the task does not necessitate a specific license.

Support department-wide projects and initiatives.

Supplies

Carry out tasks related to the storage of parts, equipment, and supplies managed by the Building Automation Shop.

Facilities Maintenance

Assist in snow removal and campus emergencies.

Continuing Education

Participate in required training sessions.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical School or equivalent education.

4 years of experience in the building automation sector, with a background in engineering and programming.

Strong understanding of HVAC or other building or electronic control systems.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of application programming languages.

Proficient in programming, job initiation and checkout, and troubleshooting.

Comprehensive understanding of HVAC controls and HVAC equipment operation, including the ability to interpret written sequences of operation.

Valid driver's license.

Willingness to travel to off-site locations.

Additional Information:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with integration of BACNET, MODBUS, etc.

Familiarity with programmable logic controllers is desirable.
