Position Summary

The Superintendent is accountable for overseeing and managing the daily operations of a construction project. This role involves being present on-site to guarantee that construction activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the project plans and specifications. Superintendents are essential in coordinating various tasks, managing subcontractors and laborers, and ensuring the project advances seamlessly. This position demands a blend of technical expertise, management capabilities, and the ability to navigate complex and diverse challenges specific to particular project scopes.

This is a full-time, permanent role that may require alternating between our headquarters and client locations.

Successful candidates may be hired at levels I, II, III, or Senior based on their education and years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the construction process within a specific area or scope, which includes planning, organizing, and coordinating all activities necessary to complete the project on schedule and within budget.
  • Supervise the work of subcontractors, laborers, and other personnel on-site, ensuring that tasks are performed correctly and efficiently.
  • Develop and manage schedules for construction activities, ensuring timely progress and proper sequencing of tasks.
  • Maintain high-quality construction standards by conducting inspections, reviewing workmanship, and ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, and ensure adherence to safety regulations among all workers.
  • Resolve conflicts related to personnel, schedules, or technical issues to maintain project momentum.
  • Act as a communication hub between project managers, architects, subcontractors, and workers, relaying information about project progress, changes, and challenges.
  • Coordinate the delivery and utilization of construction materials, tools, and equipment to ensure efficient resource use.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of daily activities, including completed work, encountered issues, and any modifications to original plans.
  • Monitor costs associated with their area of responsibility to ensure the project remains within budget.
  • Understand and assist in executing the project schedule and work plan.
  • Review subcontractor scopes, assist in the buyout process, and oversee daily activities.
  • Review submittals from the general contractor and coordinate with engineering teams.
  • Understand quality control, document control, and communication plans.
  • Provide consistent project updates to various stakeholders.
  • Enforce contracts with contractors and consultants.
  • Utilize industry best practices during execution.
  • Monitor progress and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Evaluate task performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively and build strong relationships with the client's project team, owners, final users, design team, contractors, and local jurisdictional personnel.
  • Focus initially on a key project scope, nurturing it to mastery, followed by secondary project scope focus.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience for a Superintendent I
  • 8+ years of experience for a Superintendent II
  • 10+ years of experience for a Superintendent III
  • 15+ years of experience for a Senior Superintendent
  • Contractor license preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills, and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and resourcefulness in managing stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, summarize, and present data concisely.
  • Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience in regulated industries and knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant regulations as they pertain to manufacturing and processing.
  • Previous project experience in various technologies and platforms related to manufacturing and utilities systems.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Work is performed indoors in an office setting and at job sites.
  • Protective gear is required while on-site.
  • Activities include extended periods of sitting, movement, and extensive work at a computer and phone.
  • Occasional heavy lifting may be required.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job site in various weather conditions.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to construction site hazards is expected.
  • Must be on-call to address project-related issues.
