Ophthalmic Care Technician at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Position Summary

  • Support healthcare professionals in delivering patient care by conducting thorough interviews, documenting primary concerns, and recording medical histories.
  • Execute diagnostic assessments such as visual acuity tests, tonometry, and fundus imaging.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of medical equipment and uphold a secure environment for patient care.
  • Facilitate patient flow and maintain effective communication with patients and their families.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities while ensuring patient confidentiality is upheld.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as an ophthalmic technician is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with over 2 years of experience in the field.

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • Expertise in ophthalmic technician procedures and operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of ocular anatomy, physiology, and related pathologies.
  • Basic knowledge of pediatric ophthalmology and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and office software applications.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.

Certifications

  • Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is required within the first year of employment.
