The role of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) involves delivering essential medical management in the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC) located within the UNC Hospitals. This position operates within a collaborative, academic environment, engaging with professionals across various disciplines including medical, surgical, nursing, and respiratory therapy.

UNC Children's Hospital has been recognized as one of America's Best Children's Hospitals, showcasing our commitment to excellence. The NCCC is a state-of-the-art facility with 58 beds, supported by a team of board-certified neonatologists and experienced nurse practitioners.

Key Responsibilities:
As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), you will be an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing high-quality, cost-effective care to patients within your scope of practice. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Clinical Duties: Conducting comprehensive health assessments, developing differential diagnoses, and implementing treatment plans in accordance with established protocols. You will manage critically ill newborns, including resuscitation and stabilization efforts, while maintaining clear and concise medical records.
  2. Education: Providing professional education to patients and families regarding medical conditions and treatment plans. Collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care and developing educational resources for staff and students.
  3. Leadership: Offering guidance and instruction to healthcare professionals, participating in community outreach programs, and contributing to system improvements in healthcare delivery.
  4. Professionalism: Engaging with patients and families in a respectful manner, fostering collaborative relationships with team members, and taking responsibility for patient outcomes.
  5. Quality Improvement: Actively participating in quality improvement initiatives, consulting with management on clinical issues, and leading interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care services.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must have completed an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider program and hold licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider in North Carolina. Board certification may be required based on departmental standards.
