The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is looking for a dedicated Advanced Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist (Adv END Tech) to engage in intricate patient care tasks, including continuous video electroencephalogram (EEG) Monitoring, crafting and importing patient-specific montages and digital spectral arrays, as well as analyzing real-time data to support nuclear medicine procedures. The Adv END Technologist will execute these responsibilities in various settings, including patient bedsides and intensive care units (ICUs), with potential duties in both Pediatric and Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs) as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced procedures at patient bedsides, ICUs, and adult/pediatric EMUs, which may encompass continuous Video EEG Monitoring, somatosensory evoked potentials, transcranial motor evoked potentials, multimodal intraoperative monitoring, long-term intensive care monitoring, and/or EMU monitoring.
  • Design and import individualized montages and digital spectral arrays, assess ongoing data to aid during nuclear medicine procedures, and uphold age-related competencies.
  • Implement advanced techniques, which may involve blink reflexes, repetitive nerve stimulation, and/or short and long exercise tests as necessary.
  • Ensure and maintain proficiency in specialized areas to meet NAEC Level IV accreditation standards.
  • Enhance quality patient care through staff education and orientation, and participate in multidisciplinary Epilepsy Surgery Case Conferences.
  • Evaluate ongoing data and assess procedures and techniques utilized to represent the patient's condition to physicians and neurosurgeons.
  • Oversee quality control of equipment, identify malfunctions, troubleshoot issues, and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in on-call/call back coverage as required.
  • Act as a resource for faculty, staff, patients, and the community, providing expert knowledge and skills that positively influence clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, databases, and data archival systems.
  • Contribute to the education of END students, electrophysiology fellows, medical residents, and other staff in END technology methodologies.
  • Engage in ongoing educational opportunities by attending meetings, participating in professional organizations, and reviewing relevant journals and publications, while actively participating in UIHC epilepsy Case Conferences.
  • Involve in research activities as directed by the EMU medical director.
Compensation Grade: 59 -

Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, typically consisting of 10 or 12-hour shifts. Participation in the rotating on-call/callback schedule and holiday rotation is mandatory.

Supervision: Reports to the EEG Lab Supervisor or designated representative.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of a 24-month END Technology program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET) as R. EEG T.
  • Certification by at least one of the following:
    • American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists in Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
    • American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists in Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM)
    • American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists in Nerve Conduction Study Technology (R.NCS.T)
    • American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine in Nerve Conduction Technology (CNCT)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology.
  • Certification in Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM) or Neurophysiology Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM).
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • General computer proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and coordinate various responsibilities.
  • Management or supervisory experience.
