Job Overview:
Under the general oversight of the laboratory supervisor, the Neurodiagnostic Specialist II is responsible for preparing patients and executing both routine and specialized electrodiagnostic procedures. This includes conducting sleep studies, neonatal assessments, long-term monitoring, and intraoperative neuro monitoring across various patient demographics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts electrodiagnostic procedures in at least one modality, adhering to laboratory standards and protocols.
- Accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, demonstrating proficiency in various electrode application techniques.
- Collects comprehensive patient histories, ensuring relevant information is gathered from patients, their records, and family members.
- Confirms patient identity and maintains confidentiality throughout all studies.
- Assesses patient comprehension and cooperation, employing approved methods to enhance patient comfort and compliance.
- Educates patients and families about the testing procedures, tailoring communication to the patient's age and understanding.
- Adjusts methods or controls to achieve optimal recording results, including modifying machine settings and utilizing additional electrodes as necessary.
- Identifies and manages artifacts, documenting and addressing any issues that arise during testing.
- Ensures patient safety and addresses their needs while in the department.
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency protocols and maintains electrical safety for both patients and staff.
- Adheres to infection control standards, ensuring proper handling of materials and equipment.
- Maintains equipment cleanliness and functionality, performing necessary calibrations and troubleshooting issues promptly.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, lab personnel, and other healthcare staff.
- Possesses a solid understanding of neuroanatomy, physiology, basic electronics, and the medical conditions that may affect neurodiagnostic procedures.
- Demonstrates basic computer proficiency.
- Collaborates with the Technical Director and interpreting physician to enhance study quality through feedback.
- Engages in ongoing education to learn advanced procedures through supervised practice.
- Handles clerical tasks, including scheduling, archiving studies, and processing charges.
- Participates in professional development through conferences and independent study.
- Expected to perform both complex and routine studies with minimal supervision.
- Assists in training junior staff members.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience:
- Skilled in conducting routine and complex Electroencephalograms.
- Experienced in performing clinical Evoked Potentials.
- At least 2 years of experience in Phase I and II Long-Term Epilepsy Monitoring.
- Knowledgeable about medical and pharmacological conditions impacting Neurodiagnostic Monitoring.
- Must meet the physical demands of the role.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficient in neurodiagnostic software applications.
- Capable of performing studies on patients of all ages with indirect supervision.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative Labor Management Partnership environment.
Education:
- Associate Degree in Neurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Candidates must possess two of the following certifications:
- Registered Evoked Potential Technologist within 6 months of hire.
- Long Term Epilepsy Monitoring Certificate within 6 months of hire.
- Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate within 6 months of hire.
- Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist within 6 months of hire.
- Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Certificate within 6 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Registered EEG Technologist Certificate.
