Job Summary: The Neurophysiologic Monitoring Specialist is responsible for delivering neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring (NIOM) insights regarding the functional integrity of neural structures in patients under anesthesia during surgical procedures.

This role operates under the direct supervision of a qualified physician with expertise in NIOM. The specialist is adept in executing Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEPs), EMG monitoring, Transcranial Magnetic Motor Evoked Potentials, Pedicle Screw Stimulation, and EEG monitoring.

Additionally, the specialist is skilled in managing monitoring equipment, including programming, data analysis, troubleshooting, and report generation. This position also involves providing direct training and support to junior technologists. The Neurophysiologic Monitoring Specialist caters to neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, addressing age-specific and culturally diverse needs.

Essential Functions:
The Neurophysiologic Monitoring Specialist performs all Electrodiagnostic Services protocols, procedures, and assessments as ordered by a physician.

This includes conducting all aspects of electroencephalographic and evoked potential testing in both the diagnostic laboratory and at the patient bedside, in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Key responsibilities encompass SSEP and EMG monitoring, Transcranial Magnetic Motor Evoked Potentials, Pedicle Screw Stimulation, and EEG, including both routine and carotid monitoring.

The specialist is responsible for executing all neurodiagnostic procedures for diagnostic purposes and maintaining accurate records of reports as overseen by the Director of Diagnostic Services.

Daily calibration and routine maintenance of all diagnostic testing equipment is essential, with results documented in maintenance records per departmental policy and reference manuals. Proficiency in programming monitoring equipment, troubleshooting, and collaborating with machine vendors to optimize equipment functionality is required.

Maintaining an adequate inventory of necessary supplies for the diagnostic laboratory is crucial. The specialist ensures accurate billing charges are completed and maintains precise records in the department logbook while processing all other departmental and hospital paperwork. Generating reports for USMON and PRN physicians and ensuring correct information uploads into systems is also part of the role.

Reviewing patient records, physician orders, protocols, and data is necessary to demonstrate the ability to interpret subjective and objective information for patient assessment and order validation. Guidance from the Director/Supervisor and Medical Director is sought for unresolved issues.

The specialist assists other staff members in maintaining skills in diagnostic testing and participates in the orientation, mentorship, and education of personnel and students. This includes providing formal and informal teaching/learning opportunities to help personnel achieve and maintain the competence necessary for safe and effective practice.

Consistent assessment and identification of special needs of patients, appropriate to their specific age group (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, geriatrics), is essential when providing treatment, testing, or patient care, as well as assessing their level of understanding.

Participation in the evaluation of customer satisfaction and adherence to Guest Relation Standards is expected, along with performing all other duties as assigned.


Additional Requirements:
Required:
Education - Associate's degree in a related field
Certification - Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) from an accredited university or training program; Electroencephalography (EEG) Technician Registered from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) or Evoked Potential (EP) Technician Registered from ABRET.
Preferred:
Experience - 3+ years of EKG/EEG/ECG experience
Education - Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences

Physical Requirements:

This position involves heavy work, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force constantly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally. There may be exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.

Ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours, is required.
