Position Overview

The Central Civil Works Department is expanding rapidly in the Great Lakes and Mid-West region, and we are in search of a Senior Civil Engineering Discipline Lead. This role is pivotal in developing a robust team specializing in flood risk management systems, including locks, dams, levees, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, and ecosystem restoration. Our department collaborates on projects both nationally and internationally, integrating the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Lead the conceptualization and development of design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports, employing standard techniques while innovating solutions for flood risk management projects.
  • Collaboration: Engage with clients and AECOM teams to ensure stakeholder alignment and contribute to AECOM's broader technical capabilities.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee and review the work of team members, adhering to quality control protocols to guarantee accurate and timely outcomes.
  • Innovation: Actively seek opportunities to explore and implement new methodologies in project execution.
  • Mentorship: Guide and oversee the work of junior engineers, providing technical mentorship and support.
  • Team Integration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, and structural engineers, among others.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant design standards and regulations.
  • Participate in value engineering and alternatives analysis.
  • Conduct site visits to assess ongoing construction activities and compliance with design specifications.
  • Present project proposals and updates to clients as required.
  • Assist in business development and proposal preparation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain additional licenses.
  • Experience with federal projects, particularly with agencies such as USACE, FEMA, and NRCS.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in lock and dam system design projects.
  • Familiarity with federal flood control design guidelines.
  • Extensive experience in flood risk management design and construction.
  • Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with clients and team members.
