About the Role
AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer Discipline Lead to join our team in the Great Lakes and Mid-West area. As a key member of our Central Civil Works Department, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design and delivery of flood risk management projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of flood risk management projects, including conceptualization, planning, and execution.
- Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder buy-in and contribute to AECOM's wider technical capability and innovative approach.
- Oversee and review work produced by others, ensuring timely and accurate results, and following all quality control measures.
- Seek opportunities to innovate and trial new methods, being inquisitive and forward-thinking.
- Mentor and delegate tasks, direct and oversee the work of others, and act as a technical mentor.
- Work closely with the multi-discipline project team, including civil, geotechnical, H&H engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, surveyors, and consultants.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field, plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional Engineer license in one state in the US and able to easily obtain licenses in other states via reciprocity. NCEES profile is a plus.
- Experience working on federal projects for agencies like USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, etc.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- US Citizen or permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership in at least one lock and dam system design project in the last 10 years.
- Working knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines, like USACE Engineering Manuals and FEMA's 44 CFR Section 65.
- Flood Risk Management design and construction projects specifically for USACE.
- Experience in alternative delivery projects, not necessarily in flood risk management.
- Senior Level: At least 15 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, the last 10 years should be focused on design of flood risk management projects.
- Principal Level: At least 20 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, the last 10 years should be focused on design of flood risk management projects.
- An understanding of design requirements for flood risk management projects, like dams, locks, levees, channels, rivers, sediment control features, etc.
- Expertise in Bentley OpenRoads and an understanding in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients.
