Position Overview

The TCW Group is seeking a skilled ETF Portfolio Manager/Assistant Execution Trader to become a vital member of our newly formed ETF division. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and enhance the ETF management capabilities within our organization, leveraging the resources of a well-established firm. The position will be based in our Los Angeles office and will work closely with the Lead ETF Portfolio Manager located in San Francisco, as well as the Fixed Income Portfolio Management Teams in Los Angeles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee ETF portfolios to achieve performance metrics aligned with the funds' investment goals, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Execute index rebalancing and reconstitution strategies, considering trading costs, tax ramifications, market impact, and other relevant factors.
  • Facilitate the generation and coordination of fixed income custom creation and redemption order flows, assessing their impact on portfolio performance.
  • Develop and implement trading and tax management strategies, leading decisions related to corporate actions.
  • Ensure that portfolio, market, and operational risks are effectively managed, maintaining the integrity of investment and operational processes through sound risk management practices. Stay informed about all regulatory frameworks governing assigned portfolios.
  • Utilize quantitative techniques, risk modeling, and market-specific insights to optimize portfolio performance.
  • Analyze fund performance and identify sources of portfolio risk in relation to benchmarks.
  • Contribute proactively to enhancements in systems and investment processes.
  • Play a significant role in the evolution of the next-generation ETF platform, collaborating with internal teams and external vendors. Assess new markets to facilitate product launches concerning portfolio management.
  • Communicate complex investment concepts clearly to diverse audiences, employing strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Foster relationships and collaborate across various departments to execute new initiatives and deliver an exceptional client experience.
  • Promote a positive work environment as a leader, setting a personal example and nurturing an optimal team atmosphere.
  • Utilize OMS/EMS to execute a wide range of global equity trades and trading strategies, including algorithmic trading programs and block trades.
  • Coordinate with portfolio managers, executing brokers, and custodians.
  • Oversee all trading operations and settlement processes.
  • Conduct transaction cost analysis, best execution assessments, and other trading due diligence.
Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of comprehensive experience in the investment sector; in-depth knowledge of asset management, index funds, fixed income, ETF capital markets, and trading operations.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in ETF portfolio management is essential, with a solid understanding of ETF and fixed income capital markets.
  • A BA/BS degree is required.
  • Familiarity with OMS/EMS and trading algorithms.
  • A proven track record of delivering consistent investment performance that meets or exceeds target objectives.
  • Strong grasp of index provider methodologies and changes.
  • Knowledge of various domestic and international equity markets, investment vehicles (including derivatives), and currency hedging strategies.

  • A passion for scaling processes and a deep understanding of ETF nuances and global markets.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail. Strong quantitative analytical skills, including expertise in optimization and risk models.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively while maintaining high-quality output in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated and curious.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on teamwork and relationship-building.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in SQL/Python is advantageous.
  • A graduate degree and CFA designation are preferred.
Compensation Overview

Base Salary: For California-based positions, the anticipated base salary range is $185,000 to $200,000. This range is indicative only.

Additional Compensation: Eligible for consideration for an annual discretionary bonus.
