Position Overview

The TCW Group is on the lookout for an experienced ETF Portfolio Manager to join our newly formed ETF division. This role presents a unique opportunity to play a vital part in the growth of our ETF business, leveraging the extensive resources of a well-established firm. The selected candidate will support the primary index portfolio manager, engage in equity and fixed income ETF trade execution, and assist with various capital markets activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee ETF portfolios to achieve performance metrics aligned with the funds' investment goals, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Execute index rebalances and reconstitutions, taking into account trading expenses, tax considerations, market effects, and other relevant factors.
  • Coordinate and generate equity Capital Introduction Budgets (CIBs).
  • Develop and implement trading and tax management strategies, guiding corporate action election choices.
  • Manage portfolio, market, and operational risks effectively, ensuring integrity in investment and operational processes through sound risk management practices. Stay informed about all regulatory frameworks governing assigned portfolios.
  • Analyze fund performance and identify sources of portfolio risk in relation to benchmarks.
  • Contribute proactively to enhancements in systems and investment processes.
  • Influence the evolution of the next-generation ETF platform, collaborating with internal teams and external partners. Assess new markets to facilitate product launches related to portfolio management.
  • Communicate complex investment concepts clearly to diverse audiences, utilizing strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Foster relationships and collaborate with various departments to execute new initiatives and enhance client experiences.
  • Promote a positive work environment through personal example and by cultivating an optimal team atmosphere.
  • Utilize Order Management Systems (OMS) and Execution Management Systems (EMS) to carry out a wide range of global equity trades and strategies, including high-touch, algorithmic trading programs, and block trades.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, executing brokers, and custodians.
  • Oversee all trading operations and settlement processes.
  • Understand accounting principles related to 1940 Act funds and manage daily reconciliation tasks.
  • Conduct Transaction Cost Analysis (TCA), Best Execution assessments, and other trading due diligence.
  • Experience with the Westminster-Cowen soft dollar system and managing soft dollar invoices.
Qualifications
  • 4-8 years of experience in the investment sector; comprehensive understanding of asset management, index funds, domestic and international equity markets, fixed income, ETF capital markets, and trading operations.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in ETF portfolio management is essential. Familiarity with ETF and fixed income capital markets is advantageous.
  • A BA/BS degree is required.
  • Experience in execution trading is necessary.
  • Proven track record of delivering consistent investment performance that meets or exceeds target objectives.
  • Strong understanding of index provider methodologies and changes.
  • Knowledgeable about various domestic and international equity markets, investment vehicles (including derivatives), and currency hedging strategies.

  • Enthusiastic about optimizing processes and understanding the intricacies of ETFs and global markets.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail. Strong quantitative skills, including familiarity with optimization and risk models.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on teamwork and relationship-building.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in SQL/Python is a plus.
  • A graduate degree and CFA designation are advantageous.
Compensation Overview

Base Salary: For positions based in California, the base salary range is $185,000 to $200,000. This is an anticipated range only.

Additional Compensation: Eligible for consideration for an annual discretionary bonus.
