Job Summary

Hachette Book Group's Subsidiary Rights department is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to assist with the administration of international rights. The successful candidate will provide support to the Directors of Subsidiary Rights for both Little, Brown & Company and Grand Central Publishing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare rights guides for international book fairs
  • Handle invoicing and payment tracking for file fees and advance/royalty payments
  • Process production file requests from international publishers
  • Research and respond to rights queries
  • Assist with entering deal memos and tracking contracts
  • Enter serial deal memos and track payment
  • Update submissions logs for select markets with guidance from Directors
  • Maintain department spreadsheets, including export grid and money chasing
  • Register visitors and assist with booking internal meetings for international clients
  • Evaluate acquisition material for potential in domestic and international markets (with guidance from Directors)
  • Read manuscripts and proposals and assist with writing pitch letters
Requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with ability to communicate effectively in individual and group settings
  • Prior publishing internship experience is a plus
  • A strong interest in international rights and curiosity about world culture is a must
  • Results-driven with ability to take ownership of situations as needed
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting and build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook
