We are seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to join our team at the Center for Reproductive Rights. As a key member of our Office of General Counsel, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission to protect reproductive rights around the world.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with our General Counsel and existing Associate General Counsel to expand and institutionalize the general counsel function.
- Serve as a thought partner to the General Counsel and other members of the Office of General Counsel.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to Center leadership and staff on a range of matters.
- Supervise and mentor staff members within the Division of the General Counsel.
- Manage and support the Director of Compliance to ensure the responsible stewardship of the Center's restricted grants portfolio.
- Develop and implement strategies to evaluate and reduce organizational risk.
- Manage all non-profit/tax-exempt-related compliance matters, including those involving political activities and lobbying.
- Handle labor and employment law matters, including internal investigations and advising on new legal regulatory requirements.
- Manage legal review of donor agreements, grant agreements, and sub-grant agreements.
- Manage all corporate legal needs, including drafting contract templates and negotiating contracts.
- Lead privacy and intellectual property work for the organization, including updates to privacy policies and advising on GDPR and other privacy regulations.
- Provide legal support to the Board and its committees, including on Board and corporate governance matters.
- Manage crisis response preparedness and provide legal support to the management and Board of the Center's non-US subsidiaries.
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school (or foreign-trained lawyer with an LLM from an ABA-accredited law school) and a license to practice in NY.
- 15+ years of legal practice, including time spent in law firm or in-house legal roles.
- Strong preference for cross-border corporate/transactional experience and/or experience in the general counsel function.
- Not-for-profit understanding, particularly with INGOs, either in full-time legal role, as outside counsel, or in a board capacity.
- Global background, including experience working at a global organization and/or on a global basis.
- Grants compliance experience, including restricted grants and compliance with complex donor requirements.
- Management skills, including experience leading and mentoring direct reports.
- Annual salary of $200,000, reflective of a position based in New York City.
