Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative II to join our team at Baystate Health. As a key member of our patient access team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive exceptional care and service.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage Patient Flow: Greet patients promptly and warmly, demonstrating a genuine interest in their needs. Maintain patient confidentiality and verify reason for visit. Gather and/or verify patient demographics, confirm referrals or pre-authorizations, and provide provider updates.
  2. Insurance Verification: Request proof of insurance, verify coverage, and initiate contact for financial counseling. Assist patients or customers in completing medical release of information accurately.
  3. Payments and Collections: Collect co-payments, document payments, and reconcile collections and billing information. Provide receipts and secure cash drawers according to departmental procedures.
  4. Communication and Customer Service: Develop and maintain working relationships with coworkers, providers, and other agencies. Address public inquiries in a cheerful and customer-focused manner, demonstrating awareness of cultural differences and adapting to accommodate them.
  5. Check-out and Scheduling: Review patient information, ensure necessary documentation, and provide referrals. Time-stamp patient out in the system and offer a departure summary. Schedule new, follow-up, or walk-in appointments according to practice guidelines.
  6. Telephone and Mail Processing: Answer telephones promptly and courteously, routing calls to the appropriate person or creating messages in the system. Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail and faxes daily according to practice guidelines.
  7. Documentation and Leadership: Print orders, letters, or medical records, obtaining necessary releases or approvals. Prepare documents for scanning and work with physicians and practice managers to schedule or reschedule appointments.
  8. Interpreter Services: Provide interpreter services for nurses, providers, and social services staff as needed, accurately interpreting questions, information, and instructions for patients and providers.
Requirements

We are seeking an individual with a high school diploma or equivalent and experience or education equivalent to that generally received by obtaining HS graduation. Preferred experience includes 18 months of relevant work experience.
