We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. Key Responsibilities- Manage all aspects of financial accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely closure of financial records.
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of general ledger accounts, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and university policies.
- Manage the month-end closing processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate reports are submitted to the relevant authorities as required.
- Provide insightful financial analyses, highlighting key performance areas.
- Coordinate and review journal entries, ensuring proper classification and documentation of transactions.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements within the finance function, implementing best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting function with some supervisory experience.
- Active CPA license is strongly preferred.
- Experience in the higher education sector or non-profit organizations preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory compliance.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Efficient in troubleshooting accounting issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting insights and recommendations.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Able to meet deadlines while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to provide guidance and training to team members.
- Influences decision-making through data-driven insights.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and leading a team of professional team members.
