Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with accounting principles and university policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of financial accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely closure of financial records.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of general ledger accounts, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and university policies.
  • Manage the month-end closing processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reports are submitted to the relevant authorities as required.
  • Provide insightful financial analyses, highlighting key performance areas.
  • Coordinate and review journal entries, ensuring proper classification and documentation of transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements within the finance function, implementing best practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting function with some supervisory experience.
  • Active CPA license is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the higher education sector or non-profit organizations preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Efficient in troubleshooting accounting issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting insights and recommendations.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

What We Offer
