Electrical Controls and Automation Supervisor

As a key member of our team, the Electrical Controls and Automation Supervisor will oversee the electrical division and its personnel, providing essential technical knowledge in machinery automation and electrical frameworks. The ideal candidate will focus on fostering continuous enhancements in electrical systems and process controls to optimize operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage daily electrical operations and improvement initiatives across the facility.
  • Engage in hands-on troubleshooting of machinery as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Planner to allocate work assignments and prioritize tasks for the electrical team, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
  • Deliver expertise in process control and automation programming, along with troubleshooting support.
  • Work alongside maintenance and operations teams to enhance machine performance and drive improvements.
  • Design and oversee the transition of control systems from outdated technologies to modern solutions (e.g., from Allen-Bradley PLC-5 to ControlLogix).
  • Refine and optimize control systems to boost equipment functionality.
  • Assist in the development of data acquisition and reporting systems.
  • Mentor and train the electrical crew to foster their professional growth.
  • Provide leadership and support for capital projects.
  • Manage electrical shop supplies and maintain spare parts inventory.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial electrician, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proficient in using a CMMS for managing electrical work orders.
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming.
  • Demonstrated success in troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical equipment.
  • Experience in establishing mill standards and implementing best practices within an electrical department.
  • Preferred post-secondary education.
  • Ability to adhere to and promote site safety policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Visionary leadership with an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical distribution systems (MCCs, Transformers).
  • Extensive knowledge of PLCs, including advanced programming techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of variable frequency drives, AC/DC motors, and their control systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of pneumatic and electronic instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with wireless technology implementation.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven with strong analytical skills.
