As a Solutions Engineer, you will serve as the pivotal technical resource throughout the entire sales process, both before and after the sale. Collaborating closely with our Enterprise clients, your mission is to educate, empower, and ensure their success on the Cloudflare platform. Your in-depth knowledge of Cloudflare's globally distributed network and technologies will enable you to identify optimal solutions for prospects, facilitate training and onboarding for new clients via video conferencing or in-person sessions, and support the long-term success of our customers.
In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor on web and mobile security and performance, assisting in the development of new firewall rules from log data, crafting effective performance caching and delivery strategies, and creating or adapting internal tools and scripts tailored for our clients.
Key Responsibilities- As essential members of Cloudflare's Enterprise Sales team, Solutions Engineers lead technical discussions and implementations to foster new business opportunities, expand existing accounts, and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Your responsibilities will include qualifying prospect and customer use cases, discovering technical requirements, leading product demonstrations, identifying and designing solutions, and collaborating on proofs-of-concept (PoCs).
- For our established customers, you will be part of a dedicated account team that provides advice on technical best practices, implementation of Cloudflare products and features, and strategic guidance on internet security and performance.
- This role may require travel to meet with prospects or customers, attend industry conferences, and collaborate with your Cloudflare colleagues.
- Proven experience with a scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go) and a willingness to enhance those skills.
- Strong understanding of internet technologies, including OSI Model layers 1-7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, DNS (both authoritative and recursive), HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
- A minimum of 3 years in a customer-facing sales or consulting position, not necessarily in the tech sector.
- A genuine curiosity and passion for technology; staying informed about Cloudflare's products and industry trends is essential.
- A commitment to learning, teaching, collaboration, mentorship, and personal and team growth.
- In addition to technical and collaborative skills, we value project management, relationship building, and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in building web applications or contributing significantly to existing ones.
- Familiarity with firewall roles, understanding the distinctions between L3, L4, and L7 firewalls, and knowing that 'ACL' can mean more than just Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
- Comfort with command-line interfaces, RESTful APIs, and analyzing HTTP requests and responses using a browser's web inspector.
- Ability to articulate the differences between CSRF, XSS, and SQL injection in detail, along with Cloudflare's protective measures against these threats.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC-2.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory; we welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
- Advanced degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields are a plus.
- Relevant certifications will be advantageous.
- You possess the ability to translate complex technical concepts for various audiences, from systems engineers to front-end developers and IT managers to C-level executives.
- You have a strong desire for continuous learning and sharing knowledge with the broader team through internal and external communications, including blog posts and training sessions.
- You excel at problem-solving and finding innovative solutions tailored to our customers' unique challenges.
