BASIC FUNCTION AND QUALIFICATIONS
This position is designed for individuals who assist in providing educational support to students with special needs, ensuring adherence to state standards and individualized education programs (IEPs). The role includes offering both basic and emergency health-related assistance as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following criteria:
- Completed 48 units at an accredited institution OR
- Obtained an Associate's degree or higher OR
- Passed the District's Instructional Assistance (ESSA) written examination
- Support students with special needs in various educational environments, providing instructional assistance tailored to their individual requirements.
- Facilitate the safe transfer of students using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Assist students during transportation to and from school and related activities.
- Deliver essential medical assistance as needed, including first aid and CPR.
- Help students with personal hygiene and daily living skills.
- Monitor student safety and assist in emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement IEPs and other educational plans.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist in lesson delivery.
- Utilize technology and assistive devices to enhance student learning.
- Document student progress and communicate effectively with educational staff.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Understanding of child development principles and special education practices.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
May involve physical activities such as lifting and assisting students, as well as exposure to various environmental conditions.
