POSITION: Receptionist for Shelter Services

DEPARTMENT: Shelter Operations

LOCATION: Community Shelter

SUPERVISOR: Department Manager

STATUS: Full Time - Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The Receptionist is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of individuals utilizing the services at the shelter. This role requires treating all clients with respect and dignity while upholding organizational policies and procedures. The Receptionist will provide crisis intervention, information, and referrals to clients seeking assistance. Any significant concerns should be promptly communicated to the appropriate staff member.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Establish and maintain professional relationships with all clients, adhering to confidentiality and professional standards.
  2. Ensure the security and safety of the facility by screening all visitors prior to entry.
  3. Familiarize and enforce all shelter rules and guidelines.
  4. Keep program materials organized and accessible.
  5. Participate in all assigned staff meetings.
  6. Remain alert and attentive while on duty to ensure client safety.
  7. Document relevant information in a timely manner.
  8. Exhibit regular and punctual attendance.
  9. Perform basic janitorial tasks, including maintaining the front office area.
  10. Assist with data entry tasks, paying close attention to detail.
  11. Provide administrative support to case management staff as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Ability to understand assignments and seek clarification when necessary.
  2. May involve extended periods of sitting at a desk, using a computer, and interacting with clients. Must be able to walk, sit, stand, and bend as required, with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
  3. Regularly required to sit, use hands for various tasks, communicate verbally, and reach with arms. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision. Personal electronic devices are prohibited during work hours to maintain focus.
  4. Work in a dynamic environment with multiple tasks, interruptions, and competing priorities.
  5. Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision and making sound decisions in unique or complex situations.
