Role Overview

The Student Financial Services Consultant, under general supervision, is tasked with delivering financial aid support to prospective and current students, their families, and the broader community. This includes assessing and interpreting financial data submitted by applicants to ascertain their eligibility for financial assistance and determining the type and amount of aid to be allocated in accordance with established federal and institutional guidelines. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and potential travel to various campuses as needed.

Daily Responsibilities of a Student Financial Services Consultant:

Offers comprehensive guidance to both current and prospective students and their families regarding the financial aid process and eligibility criteria through various communication methods. Advises students on financial aid awards and alternative financing options when necessary. Reviews financial aid applications for completeness and adherence to relevant guidelines. Develops presentations and leads financial aid workshops, new student orientations, and other recruitment-related events. Clarifies loan options and ensures that students and co-signers comprehend their repayment obligations. Educates students and families about their expected family contribution (EFC) and its impact on financial aid eligibility. Provides counsel to students contemplating withdrawal from classes, informing them about the return of Title IV funds process and implications of withdrawal. Evaluates verification, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), and special circumstances documentation for accuracy and completeness to facilitate student progress and determine financial aid eligibility. Monitors and advises students on their Satisfactory Academic Progress plans to ensure compliance with institutional policies. Assesses students for unusual or mitigating circumstances, guiding them through the specific processes for their needs. Remains informed of regulatory changes and commits to ongoing professional development relevant to managing caseloads. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree Two years of relevant experience

Knowledge of:

Federal, State, Local, and County financial aid laws, regulations, and guidelines Microsoft Office Suite or similar software Federal needs analysis procedures IRS tax regulations related to financial aid Differences between clock hour and credit hour programs and their respective awarding methodologies Principles of Academic Advising

Skills:

Strong attention to detail with effective time and task management abilities Proficient in fact-finding, analysis, and problem-solving

Abilities:

Demonstrate critical thinking and interpersonal skills Engage positively with diverse populations and varying educational backgrounds of students, faculty, staff, and the public Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to enhance personal and team effectiveness Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders, building relationships and managing expectations for high-quality service

Licenses, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

Regular physical attendance is essential Must not be debarred from Title IV Programs and not in default on Title IV student loans

Proficiency in bilingual communication, both written and spoken
