About the Position

The Student Financial Services Consultant, under general supervision, plays a vital role in delivering financial aid advice to prospective and current students, their families, and the broader community. This position involves assessing and interpreting financial data submitted by applicants to ascertain their eligibility for financial assistance, as well as determining the appropriate type and amount of aid in accordance with established federal and institutional guidelines. Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings and weekends, is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer comprehensive guidance to both prospective and enrolled students and their families regarding financial aid processes and eligibility criteria through various communication methods.
  • Advise students on available financial aid packages and alternative funding options when applicable.
  • Examine financial aid applications for completeness and adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and workshops related to financial aid, new student orientation, and recruitment initiatives.
  • Clarify loan options and ensure that students and their co-signers are fully informed about repayment obligations.
  • Educate students and families about their expected family contribution (EFC) and its impact on financial aid eligibility.
  • Provide counsel to students contemplating withdrawal from courses, explaining the return of Title IV funds process and its implications.
  • Assess and verify documentation related to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and special circumstances to facilitate students' financial aid eligibility.
  • Monitor and advise students on their Satisfactory Academic Progress plans to ensure compliance with institutional policies.
  • Evaluate students' situations for unusual or mitigating circumstances and guide them through the necessary processes.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and commit to ongoing professional development relevant to financial aid management.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable federal, state, and local financial aid regulations and guidelines.
  • Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Federal needs analysis procedures.
  • IRS tax regulations related to financial aid.
  • Differences between clock hour and credit hour programs and their respective awarding methodologies.
  • Principles of academic advising.

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail with effective time management capabilities.
  • Proficient in fact-finding, analysis, and problem-solving.

Abilities:

  • Exhibit critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Engage positively with diverse populations and varying educational backgrounds.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks to enhance personal and team productivity.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders, fostering relationships and managing expectations.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Must not be debarred from Title IV Programs or in default on Title IV student loans.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Four years of relevant experience.

Skills:

  • Bilingual communication skills, both written and spoken.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to reach and grasp objects.
  • Capability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Proficient use of video display terminals.
  • Effective manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to comprehend information through oral and written communication.
  • Competence in proofreading and verifying documents for accuracy.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary for this position is $42,583.00 annually, with variations based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
