Job Overview:

Position Summary:
Oversees the management of departments dedicated to delivering patient care services around the clock.

Ensures that the team provides high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care, focusing on patient-centered services that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsible for developing and upholding clinical standards of care and practice; accountable for resource budgeting, selection, and development.

Key Responsibilities:
Directs the operations of 24-hour departments that may span multiple locations.

Guarantees that Assistants and staff deliver top-tier care while adhering to the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and all relevant regulations.

Establishes, implements, and maintains standards for patient care and services to meet the expectations of members and internal clients.
Designs and assesses processes aimed at enhancing systems and patient care outcomes across the care continuum.
Develops and oversees budgets to ensure the effective use of human and material resources. Monitors financial performance, identifying and executing strategies to reduce costs while enhancing quality of care and services.

Determines the optimal staff composition for the department and develops processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency.

Ensures ongoing professional development for staff. Manages and resolves issues related to human resources, employee safety, and risk management.

Creates, implements, and monitors departmental policies and procedures that align with the organization's goals and objectives, ensuring compliance.

Oversees the establishment of care standards and practices, directs fiscal management, and leads quality improvement initiatives.
Kaiser Permanente routinely conducts compensation reviews for positions.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


A minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty area, including four (4) years of management, supervisory, or leadership experience.

Education
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a Master’s Degree in Nursing obtained through a direct entry MSN program.
License, Certification, Registration

Registered Nurse License (California) required upon hire.
Basic Life Support certification required.

Additional Requirements:
*Leadership experience is permissible for internal applicants only and is defined by the following criteria: demonstrated clinical nursing leadership as a Charge/Senior RN, participation on professional committees including UBTs, National Certification in Specialty, completion of RN Leadership Development Program, and/or demonstrated exposure to Nursing Leadership.
Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other relevant regulations.
Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential.
ACLS or PALS certification may be required for specific departmental positions.
National Certification preferred within one year of hire.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
One (1) year of experience in Magnet/shared governance preferred.
One (1) year of experience managing in a bargaining environment preferred.
Master’s degree preferred.
