Position Summary:
The Water Management department is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Maintenance Crew Supervisor. This position involves overseeing teams responsible for maintaining pipelines, installing new water and sewer services, hydrants, valves, manholes, and meters. The supervisor will prioritize daily work orders and manage tasks through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This role necessitates technical expertise and collaboration with Field Supervisors in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collections.

The supervisor will work closely with crew leaders to ensure accurate documentation of work orders and materials utilized.

This position requires participation in a weeklong rotation for on-call duties, overtime, and emergency responses in various weather conditions.

Cross-training in different workgroups within Water & Sewer Maintenance is expected to fulfill on-call responsibilities:


Meter Services:
Installation and repair of residential water meters and registers.

Diagnosis and repair of minor leaks, replacement of meter boxes and setters, testing and repair of large meters.
Outfall:
Clearing easements and assisting with manhole repairs and inspections, responding to sanitary sewer system overflows.

Collection Systems:
Assisting with closed-circuit television inspections, flush truck operations, and sanitary sewer overflow responses.

Distribution Systems:
Repairing and maintaining valves and fire hydrants within the water system.

Excavation:
Maintaining pipelines and installing new services, hydrants, valves, manholes, and meters.

As a leader, this role demands strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and professionalism at all times.

The supervisor is responsible for monitoring staff performance related to work objectives, conducting evaluations, and managing operational data.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise field operations in the assigned area, which may include sign installation, pavement markings, street closures, and maintenance projects.
- Assign and inspect work, ensuring quality control and compliance with safety policies.
- Assist with procurement and budget preparation, serving as the first level of approval for purchases.
- Prepare and review reports, records, and databases for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide assistance to customers and staff, addressing inquiries and troubleshooting complex issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
- Two years of experience in equipment operation or maintenance related to the assignment.
- Prior supervisory experience is required.

Must possess a valid, unrestricted North Carolina Class C driver's license or be willing to obtain one within 60 days of employment. A valid, unrestricted North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Level A is also required or must be obtained within 60 days of start date. OSHA Competent Person and Trenching/Shoring certifications are necessary or must be obtained within one year of employment.

Preferred Skills:
- NC CDL Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsements.
- Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- NC Grade C Water Distribution certification or higher.
- NC Grade II Wastewater Collection certification or higher.
