Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Crew Supervisor to join our Water Management team at the City of Durham. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our water and sewer infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of water services to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of maintenance crews, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Plan and prioritize work orders, utilizing our computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to optimize resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with field supervisors to ensure that work is completed to the highest standards, and that all necessary safety protocols are followed.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and training to staff, and make recommendations for personnel actions as needed.
  • Assist with procurement and budget preparation, ensuring that all purchases are made in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain fiscal and operational reports, records, and databases, ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Two years of experience in equipment operation, driving, or maintenance, preferably in a water or sewer management setting.
  • Prior lead or supervisory experience, with a proven track record of success in managing teams and achieving goals.
  • Valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver's license, with the ability to obtain a valid NC-CDL level A within 60 days of hire.
  • OSHA Competent Person and Trenching/Shoring certifications, or the ability to obtain within 1 year of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NC CDL Tanker and/or Hazmat endorsements.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • NC Grade C Water Distribution certification or higher.
  • NC Grade II Wastewater Collection certification or higher.
