Position Overview:
The Department of Psychology at the University of Miami is seeking a skilled cognitive neuroscientist to join the lab of Dr. Mingbo Cai as a postdoctoral associate. This role focuses on an innovative collaborative project aimed at decoding spontaneous thoughts. Candidates with a robust background and interest in other significant areas of the lab are also encouraged to apply.
Project Details:
The primary objective of this project is to investigate the content and dynamics of spontaneous thoughts through fMRI decoding and naturalistic tasks, as well as their abnormalities in mental health disorders. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with Dr. Mingbo Cai and have opportunities to work with researchers from other esteemed institutions. Responsibilities will include analyzing existing fMRI datasets from both healthy and clinical participants and conducting new experimental studies.
Qualifications:
Expertise in at least one of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Deep learning models in natural language processing or computer vision
- Advanced fMRI analysis using encoding or decoding models
- Computational modeling of spontaneous thoughts or psychiatric conditions
- Designing experiments with naturalistic stimuli.
The initial contract is for one year, with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.
Core Responsibilities:
- Analyze neural imaging data related to spontaneous thoughts.
- Design and conduct brain-imaging experiments with diverse populations.
- Prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current principles and theories relevant to the research.
- Assist the principal investigator with grant proposals and mentor graduate students as needed.
This list of duties is not exhaustive and may be expanded to include additional responsibilities as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. (or M.D.) in neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, computer science, machine learning, electrical engineering, or related fields.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in conducting fMRI experiments and analyzing data with computational models is highly preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in collecting, organizing, and analyzing behavioral and/or neuroimaging data.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Good programming skills in Python or similar languages.
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks such as Pytorch or Tensorflow.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
- Willingness to collaborate and support colleagues.
